Hi there – I’m Josie. Josephine if you’re my mum, or if I’ve accidentally nicked the last seat on the 55 bus.
I was born and raised right here in Shoreditch, back when Brick Lane was just Brick Lane and not a destination. I’ve watched this neighbourhood transform from the inside out – the art, the fashion, the people – but what’s always stayed the same, and always made my heart do a little something, is the food.
Food is kind of in my DNA. My uncle ran a café on Bethnal Green Road for twenty years. My nan made her own pasta at a time when nobody on this postcode knew what pasta was. I never trained as a chef – I’d probably burn the place down – but I grew up watching, tasting, and talking about food as though it were a second language.
So here I am with Life Shoreditch – my little corner of the internet dedicated to the place I love and the thing I love most about it: the eating. From the legendary curry houses on Brick Lane (yes, I have opinions, strong ones) to the tiny bakery that just opened three streets from my front door, I’m here to eat it all and tell you about it.
No Michelin stars needed. No reservations required. Just great food, great stories, and an honest take on what it’s actually like to eat in one of the most exciting neighbourhoods in London.
Welcome to my table. Pull up a chair.
